JC was a classmate of Howard and Mark's at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for both a BSAS and M.Arch. While in graduate school, he won the esteemed Edward C. Earl Prize for design excellence two of the three competitions, including first place for his Master’s Thesis "Transformable Architecture...a Change of Place."

Born in Southern California and raised alongside the horse farms of Kentucky, JC's varied interests include just about everything except ironically, surfing and horseback riding. As a youth, learning multiple musical instruments and playing just about every sport helped build a strong sense of competitiveness while creating an enjoyment of teamwork.
