Golf Inc. Magazine recognized Kuo Diedrich Chi’s design of The Club at Balsam Mountain with an award for second place, Best New Private Clubhouse. Judges commended the project for its creative layout, which uses indoor-outdoor dining spaces, natural landscaping and outdoor courtyards and terraces to maximize the impact of its position overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The design took inspiration from the property’s mining roots, with the cluster of buildings and cottages giving the impression of a classic mountain village married with modern tastes and luxuries. Judges were also impressed with the club’s interiors, describing them as “refined yet casual.”
Outside of the club’s Arnold Palmer-designed course, club-goers can enjoy amenities including the Summit House restaurant, Mine Tavern and outdoor fireplace, all designed for an experience that is at once cozy, luxurious and communal.
“The facility is a wonderful example of how less is more when it comes to rightsizing a clubhouse and taking advantage of the environment,” shared Kuo Diedrich Chi Principal Mark Diedrich.
